It might not even mean an enormous price increase for customers, dependent on how much the company would like to invest.

This new feature is expected to become part of the forthcoming Qi2 open standard, which is an improved version of the MagSafe technology. It is reportedly more efficient and offers better power transfer between the phone and charger. The latest feature may signal the end of Apple’s Walled Garden policy which has previously limited the charging of chargers that are not Apple’s on the company’s phones. If the company is able to remove its requirements for MagSafe chargers to enable wireless charging at high speeds and let other devices like laptops and tablets equipped with a USB-C port. It is also a great solution to be in compliance with EU requirements that call for ports to charge and for transfer of data.
Apple’s newest iPhone series is expected to have a major upgrade to the capabilities of charging. Although Apple hasn’t yet made this change known but industry sources claim that the latest phones will be faster in charging over their predecessors.
The fast charging capability will probably be limited to the Pro models. It’s possible that the standard model will only support USB 2.0 technology. This won’t give much advantage over Lightning.
